Our Curriculum
At Kilworth Children's Centre (KCC) we view children as competent, capable, and curious individuals who are rich in potential. We encourage children to explore their environment and foster children's engagement in meaningful play, exploration, and inquiry.
Our program's polices and practices are guided by How Does Learning Happen?: Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years (HDLH). This document helps educators focus on interrelationships in the context of early years environments. KCC recognizes the four foundational conditions that are important for children to grow and flourish: Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement, and Expression. Our objective is to focus on these foundations throughout all aspects of our programs to ensure optimal learning and healthy development for all children.
At KCC, we believe children develop to the best of their ability if they have a positive, nurturing and secure developmental environment that provides children with a sense of belonging. Our programs support the child's natural curiosity, interests, and development by providing opportunities for child-initiated activities and educator facilitated experiences (also known as invitations or provocations of play). Children are also able to freely explore a wide variety of open-ended play materials in loosely defined areas that support exploration and inquiry with their bodies, minds, and senses. Invitations/Provocations are provided based on the children's interests with the intent to meet the developmental needs of the whole child based on the lest and most skilled child.
KCC provides their Early Years Professionals with opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills through ongoing continuous professional learning. KCC is dedicated to the continuation of their educators' professional growth in order to provide the most current knowledge and care. We continue our learning to strengthen our interactions with children, families, and each other. KCC employees attend monthly meetings with group discussions that are intended to enrich our centre. Our educators are help accountable to upholding our standards of practice and our program statement.
